Recall process

How the McKinney recall process works

The Charter sets the sequence. The City-issued petition pages and City Secretary instructions control the active collection process.

  1. 01

    Affidavit filed

Five registered McKinney voters executed the notarized Affidavit of Intent on August 11. It was filed with the City Secretary on August 12, 2026.

    Aug 11–12, 2026

  2. 02

    Official papers issued

Only numbered, dated petition papers signed and issued directly by the City Secretary can be used for signature collection.

    Aug 13, 2026

  3. 03

    Signatures collected

Qualified McKinney voters sign official papers in person, with a trained circulator present, during the 45-day window.

    Aug 13–Sep 26, 2026

  4. 04

    Petition verified

The completed petition is submitted to City Hall. The City Secretary examines it under the Charter and controlling election rules.

    Winter 2026

  5. 05

    Recall vote follows

If the petition qualifies and an officer does not resign within the Charter period, City Council orders a recall election according to state law.

Date set by lawful election order
